Washougal resident Craig Mark received the city of Washougal’s 2023 Mayor’s Award during a Washougal City Council meeting held July 24.

Mark, the owner of the Camas-based Mark Marine Service, a marine construction company specializing in piledriving, dredging and derricks, has donated barge and tugboat services to the Port of Camas-Washougal’s annual Fourth of July celebration for many years.

“The community could not enjoy this annual Independence Day tradition without these essential services,” Mayor David Stuee wrote on the award certificate. “The city recognizes the significance of your generous donation and thanks you.”

The Port recently announced that it will not hold the July Fourth fireworks celebration in 2024, due to logistics and safety concerns, and will instead seek to launch a new community event or partner with other local agencies to put on a fireworks show at a bigger venue, such as the Clark County Fairgrounds.
