Public invited to have ‘Lunch With Dave’

Area residents and business representatives are invited to a complimentary lunch with Port Executive Director Dave Ripp.

The Port will hold its annual “Lunch with Dave” event from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, July 27, at Washougal High School’s Excelsior building, 1401 39th St., Washougal.

“The Port’s mission is to bring jobs, infrastructure and recreational opportunities to east Clark County is a commitment I take to heart,” Ripp said. “When the community comes together to share ideas and information, it is a win for everyone.”

Fern Prairie Art Fest set for July 29-30

The fourth annual Fern Prairie ART FEST, a two-day event connecting local artists and the community, will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, July 29-30, at Shangri-La Farm, 26300 N.E. Third St., a little more than one mile north of Lacamas Lake, just outside the city limits of Camas.

The event is free to the public.

A total of 13 artist booths will be featured in the juried show, including: Sarah Bang, Bev Birdwell, Matthew Clarkson, Cheryl Folkers, Dave Garbot, David Gerton, Charlene Hale, Amy Jan Ernst, Cheryl Mathieson, Keith Russell, Liz Pike, Hiroko Stumpf and Roxanne Turley.

Original work includes paintings in oils, acrylics and watercolor, pastels, mixed media, pottery, fused and enamel glass, jewelry, pen-and-ink and copper mixed media.

New to the Fern Prairie ART FEST this year is a Camas-Washougal Chamber of Commerce-sponsored wine and beer garden.

Attendees will park at the rented Grove Field Airport parking lot, 632 N.E. 267th Ave., Camas, and may either walk the one-fourth mile to Shangri-La Farm or take the free “Sunflower Mobile” shuttle service.

The free shuttle — hand-painted by Shangri-La Farm owner Liz Pike in oils on fiberglass in her signature sunflower motif — will be available to transport attendees from the airport parking lot to Shangri-La Farm between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, July 29-30.

Annual ‘National Night Out’ event coming to Washougal

The city of Washougal will hold its third annual National Night Out event from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 1, at Hathaway Park, 732 25th St., Washougal.

The event will feature ice cream, a dunk tank, games and giveaways.

“On behalf of the members of the Washougal Police Department, I want to invite everyone to once again participate in (our) National Night Out event,” said Washougal Police Chief Wendi Steinbronn. “National Night Out is one small part of our overarching goal to enhance community engagement. This is a time to strengthen police-community relationships and meet your neighbors in a fun, welcoming environment.”

National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes strong police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live and work. Neighbors throughout Washougal and across the United States are asked to lock their doors, turn on their front porch lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors and law enforcement officers.

Camas martial arts academy to celebrate 25th anniversary

Universal Jiu Jitsu, located at 217 N.E. Fourth Ave., in downtown Camas, will celebrate its 25th anniversary starting at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 15.

The event will include a summer belt promotion, barbecue and free prizes, including T-shirts, shorts, membership specials and tuition freezes.

Instructors at the Camas jiu jitsu school have decades of experience including experience with Brazilian jiu jitsu and kickboxing.

Universal Jiu Jitsu, which is the longest established Brazilian Jiu Jitsu organization in Clark County, offers classes for adults and youth throughout the week, including beginner-only classes and competition-only classes.
