Murder-suicide investigation underway in Washougal

Deputies responding to a 911 call Thursday discovered a man and woman suffering from gunshot wounds inside a Washougal home; Carol Rossi, 73, died at the hospital, and Roberto Rossi, 78, is in critical condition

The Clark County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an apparent murder-suicide attempt in Washougal. 

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies responded to a report of a shot heard at a home near Southeast Sunset View Road and Southeast Evergreen Highway in Washougal around 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8. 

The 911 caller, identified as a male by the sheriff’s office, “reported that he had just heard a gunshot in the house and was going to investigate,” according to a news release. “The caller disconnected, and dispatch was unable to reach the caller again.”
Clark County Sheriff’s Office deputies, along with officers from the Washougal and Camas police departments arrive on scene and a sheriff’s office sergeant saw a person on the ground and a man “slumped over, sitting at the kitchen counter.”
Upon entering the residence, law enforcement discovered both people had suffered gunshot wounds to the head. Both people in the home were reportedly still breathing when officers arrived on the scene and received first aid from responding law enforcement  

Emergency medical responders from Camas-Washougal Fire Department and East County Fire and Rescue also provided medical assistance and transported the injured woman and man — later identified as Carol L. Rossi, 73, and Roberto Rossi, 78 — to a local trauma hospital. 

Carol Rossi was pronounced dead at the hospital. Roberto Rossi is listed in critical condition as of 4 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8. 

The Clark County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit is investigating the incident as a murder-suicide. Law enforcement said there is no threat to the public.
