Four local residents were honored as “Real Heroes of Clark County” for 2023 by the Learn Here Project, an initiative of Identity Clark County, a Vancouver-based nonprofit organization.

Cape Horn-Skye Elementary and Canyon Creek Middle School art teacher Alice Yang, Washougal Times owner Ben Jackson, Camas Connect Academy principal Daniel Huld, and Helen Baller Elementary School Parent Teacher Association president Jessica Buck were selected by  the county-wide program, which  recognizes educational staff members and volunteers in partnership with educational institutions for their efforts to serve Clark County’s school communities.

“Each honoree is deserving of our appreciation because their efforts foster a supportive culture and inspire others, even though none seek recognition for what they do,” according to a statement on discoverclark.org. “The extra commitment of staff and volunteers is why we have such a great educational system today. They are the ones who champion modern facilities, innovative programs, and a diverse range of student support programs that make it possible for each student to thrive.”
