Washougal-based McDonald Excavating Inc. will begin work on the Port of Camas-Washougal’s apron expansion project at Grove Field airport on Monday, Aug. 29.

Taxiway G will be closed to aircraft traffic, but the fueling station will remain open during the project, according to a news release.

“Please be patient and mindful of construction trucks and equipment during this time,” the Port stated in the news release. “Safety is everyone’s priority.”

The Port is anticipating that the project should be completed in late September, depending on the weather.

Port commissioners approved a $200,462 contract with McDonald Excavating Inc. in July to widen the airfield’s existing fueling apron/taxiway.

“Just north of the fuel tank, we’re adding additional asphalt, so planes can pass each other on the taxiway, and realigning the fuel bin for the tanks to take away any safety concerns of where the planes are currently fueling in front of FlyIt Academy,” Port Chief Executive Officer David Ripp said during a commissioner meeting on Wednesday, July 6..
