The Washougal City Council appointed Myra Wicks and Jennifer McDonald to the city’s park and cemetery board during a meeting on Monday, July 11.
Wicks is self-employed, working as a nail technician and aesthetician at Debi’s Salon in Washougal and a Mary Kay Independent Beauty consultant.
“As a business owner in Washougal for 20 years, I believe helping and giving back to our community is important,” Wicks wrote in her application materials. “I have a lot of community outreach experience that I feel will benefit the park board. My focus is the youth in Washougal and getting them involved with the community in any way I can.”
McDonald serves as a substitute classified staff member for the Mount Pleasant School District and was a board member and volunteer for the Washougal Schools Foundation from 2017 to 2020.
“(The parks and the cemetery) are important to our community, and there appears to be a need,” McDonald wrote in her application materials. “I enjoy using the parks in the Washougal area and appreciate the efforts our city makes in maintaining the cemetery. Learning more about either would be a welcome opportunity. I have worked with Boy Scouts, parent-teacher organizations, church groups, and a local non-profit board since moving to Washougal, and enjoy working with others toward a common goal.”
