WASA honors Washougal student, volunteer

Two Washougal residents have received recognition from Washington Association of School Administrators (WASA) for their achievements and contributions to the Washougal School District.

Jacob Streuli, who graduated from Washougal High in June, received WASA’s Student Leadership Award for Educational Service District 112 (ESD 112). The award recognizes student leaders who have created or played a significant leadership role in initiatives or programs that promote inclusivity, access, equity, or social justice in their school and community, according to the WASA website.

Streuli worked as a certified nursing assistant while attending Washougal High and used his work experience to further his educational goals while seeking to serve others through his volunteer work, according to the Washougal School District.

“As president of the WHS American Sign Language (ASL) club, Jacob leads meetings, plans events, and volunteers as an ASL interpreter at events,” according to a district newsletter. “He is pursuing a nursing degree, where his ability to communicate via ASL will help future patients. He volunteers serving meals and helps with food drives. Jacob is an excellent student who manages to balance work, academics, and extracurricular involvement, and does it all while seeking to serve others.”

Washougal resident Pam Clark received the WASA Community Leadership Award for ESD 112. The award is presented to community members or groups in recognition of their outstanding contributions toward education, according to WASA’s website.

Clark is a Washougal High graduate and longtime school supporter.

“(She) volunteers at Hathaway Elementary, organizing a holiday gift store where students can spend PBIS rewards to purchase holiday gifts for others,” according to the newsletter. “She helped start a ‘clothing closet’ where students and families who need clothing can shop. She helped build Refuel, a weekly meal program for families experiencing homelessness. She organizes her extensive network of friends to meet needs identified by the district’s Family Community Resource Center. Pam helps connect senior citizens in Washougal with schools, coordinating volunteers and building relationships between patrons, school staff, and teachers. Her efforts are greatly appreciated.”
