Camas library to launch Summer Reading Program on June 10

The Camas Public Library’s annual Summer Reading Program returns this week on Friday, June 10.

More than 1,300 children, teens and adults participated in the library’s 2021 Summer Reading Program. This year, the theme is “Read Beyond the Beaten Path,” celebrating the exploration of our natural world.

The purpose of the Summer Reading Program is to encourage youth to read during their school break. Youth who read during the summer will practice their reading comprehension skills and are likely to start school in the fall more prepared.

“Our Summer Reading Program will still help to prevent the ‘summer slide’ in youth reading comprehension, as it does every year,” Camas Public Library Director Connie Urquhart said.

As in previous years, participants can read anything they choose, including offerings from the library’s extensive ebook and audiobook collections.

After 40 days of reading, participants can come to the library to pick up a Treasure Tote filled with goodies, as well as a book of their choice. Finishers also will be able to enter their name in a raffle for a chance to win prizes, including a bike, a Kobo eReader, a $100 VISA gift card and more.

Logging daily reading will be available through the Beanstack Tracker app, a Badge Book filled with other fun activities or a printable game board.

“We have fantastic, easy-to-use software in place, and our staff are working hard to keep the summer fun, engaging and rewarding for everyone who participates. Badge Books were hugely popular last year, and we’re glad to be able to provide them again.”
