Latest News, News, Sports The Camas and Washougal girls basketball teams are participating in their respective state tournaments this week.
The Papermakers defeated Inglemoor 56-44 in a 4A regional game at Battle Ground High School on Friday, Feb. 25, to qualify for the 4A Hardwood Classic.
Camas (16-8) faced off against Bellarmine Prep in a first-round loser-out state tournament contest at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 2, at the Tacoma Dome in Tacoma, Washington. The Papermakers split their two meetings with the Lions earlier in the season, winning by 22 on Tuesday, Dec. 21, and losing by eight on Saturday, Feb. 19.
Washougal advanced to the 2A Hardwood Classic despite losing a regional contest to Ellensburg on Saturday, Feb. 26.
The No. 2 Bulldogs (23-0) beat Washougal 56-31 at Davis High School.
“We definitely can’t hang our heads. We can’t doubt what we’re doing,” Panthers coach Britney Ervin told The Columbian, the Post-Record’s sister paper. “We have to take it and learn from that pressure. Learn that every team from here on out is going to have great defense. We have to be patient, we have to be smart, we can’t take the bait. Those are good things for us to learn from.”
