Camas officials helped honor veterans this weekend, during the Dec. 18 Wreaths Across America.
The local Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 4278, along with Camas residents, made their way to the cemetery on Saturday, Dec. 18, and placed 726 wreaths on the graves of veterans at the Camas Cemetery as part of the nationwide Wreaths Across America. More than 2,500 cemeteries around the country participated in this year’s event.
Camas City Council members Shannon Roberts and Tim Hein participated in the Wreaths Across America event at the Camas Cemetery on Dec. 18. Roberts is a U.S. Navy veteran and a member of the local VFW. Hein is an active-duty U.S. Army veteran. Camas Mayor Steve Hogan also attended the Dec. 18 ceremony and honored fallen veterans as well as those currently serving in the military.
“It’s important to remember the sacrifices of those who have gone before us to keep the United States and its citizens free,” Roberts said. “It’s also important that residents visit and bring their children to participate … to understand, honor and respect what that entails.”
