A Washougal man pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide and other charges in a Florida court on Nov. 8 after an October 2020 car crash that resulted in the death of a 24-year-old man.

According to the Cape Coral Police Department, Kyran Montes, 25, drove an Infiniti G37 at a high rate of speed into an elevated canal bank in Cape Coral, Florida, on the night of Oct. 5, 2020. The car flipped into the canal and was submerged when police officers arrived. Passenger Alex Pratt of Cape Coral died at the scene.

Police later said drugs/alcohol and speed were factors in the crash.

Montes pleaded guilty to fleeing and eluding a law enforcement officer and vehicular homicide. The Lee County district attorney’s office declined to file prosecution notices on charges of leaving the scene of a crash and driving under the influence, according to the report.

Montes is scheduled to be sentenced on Jan. 10, 2022.
