Camas swimmer wins fifth-place medal at state meet

Camas’ Campell Deringer took fifth place in the 100-meter breaststroke finals at the 4A state girls swimming and diving meet, held Nov. 12-13 at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way.

Derringer finished the race in 1 minute, 6.32 seconds. She also placed 11th in the 200 individual medley consolation race with a time of 2:13.47.

In preliminary events, the Papermakers’ 200 medley relay team (Karli Kiesenhofter, Deringer, Sydney King and Sophia Wade) finished 17th in 1:57.02; Camas’ 400 relay team (Lila McGeachy, Jennifer Gonzales Corona, Kiesenhofer and Zoe Chapin) placed 19th in 4:03.12; and McGeachy finished 15th in the 500 freestyle in 5:31.34. 

Seven Washougal swimmers competed in 2A state meet preliminary races on Nov. 12 in Federal Way.

The Panthers’ 200 free relay team (Julianne Baker, Mary Lendvoyi, Emily Larzalere and Christina Yung) placed 22nd with a time 1:57.46, and their 400 free relay team (Grace Deshazer, Lorelei Peck, Jessica Nute and Larzalere) placed 25th with a time of 4:39.86.

Larzalere placed 19th in the 500 freestyle with a time of 6:07.93
