2018
The Camas-Washougal Post-Record recently won a first-place General Excellence award for newspapers our size in Washington state and Managing Editor Kelly Moyer took home the first-place “News Writer of the Year” award in the Washington Newspaper Publishers Association (WNPA) 2018 Better Newspaper Contest (BNC).
Winners were announced at the WNPA’s 131st annual meeting, held Oct. 11-13 in Yakima, Washington.
Post-Record reporters also took home six other first-place awards, four second-place awards and two third-place awards.

2019
The Camas-Washougal Post-Record recently won a first-place General Excellence award for newspapers its size in Washington state at the Washington Newspaper Publishers Association (WNPA)’s 2019 Better Newspaper Contest.
Winners were announced at the WNPA’s 132nd annual meeting, held Oct. 10-12 in Olympia, Washington.
The Post-Record editorial staff also took home 10 awards for reporting and editorial writing.

2020
The Camas-Washougal Post-Record earned seven journalism awards, including four first-place reporting awards, at the Washington Newspaper Publishers Association’s 2020 Better Newspaper Contest, held virtually on Friday, Oct. 9.
Kelly Moyer, the Post-Record managing editor, placed third in the WNPA’s “News Writer of the Year” competition, which is open to all non-daily newspaper writers in the state of Washington.
Post-Record reporters also took home six other journalism awards for the following articles and series of articles:

2021
The Washington Newspaper Publishers Association awarded The Camas-Washougal Post-Record 10 journalism awards this week, during the WNPA’s virtual presentation of its 2021 Better Newspaper Contest awards on Saturday, Oct. 9.
Post-Record reporters nabbed five first-place journalism awards for their environmental, sports news, general feature, lifestyle and arts coverage; four second-place awards for education, COVID-19 coverage, election and business reporting; and one third-place award, also for election coverage.
The awards included:
- A first-place award for arts reporting award for reporter Doug Flanagan’s article, “Pushing through to create works of art,” concerning the creation of a virtual 2020 Washougal Studio Artists Tour during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic;
- A first-place award for environmental coverage for editor Kelly Moyer’s article, “Cleaning up the ‘crown jewel’ of Camas,” concerning efforts to kickstart a years-long campaign to improve water quality in Camas’ Lacamas Lake;
- A first-place feature writing award for editor Kelly Moyer’s article, “Teens honored for lifesaving rescue,” about the rescue of a father and his young daughter at Camas’ “potholes” near Round Lake;
- A first-place lifestyle feature writing award for reporter Doug Flanagan’s article, “Learning on the road,” about a Washougal family who decided to take their children’s home-schooling on the road for a hands-on American history lesson;
- A first-place sports news reporting award for reporter Doug Flanagan’s article, “Camas graduate signs with San Francisco Giants,” about Camas alumnus Tyler Forner’s baseball career;
- A second-place business feature writing award for reporter Doug Flanagan’s article, “Farming Possibilities,” about Washougal farmers finding new markets during the COVID-19 pandemic;
- A second-place award for COVID-19 coverage for editor Kelly Moyer’s article, “Painter finds inspiration in desolate downtown,” about Camas painter Anna Norris’ “We’re Not in Camas Anymore” painting of Natalia’s Cafe;
- A second-place education reporting award for editor Kelly Moyer’s article, “Small, but mighty,” about the struggles the Camas-Washougal Parent Co-op Preschool faced during the COVID-19 pandemic;
- A second-place election reporting award for editor Kelly Moyer’s article, “Campaigning in a time of COVID,” about how a few local candidates reacted to a campaign season devoid of in-person town halls, door-to-door introductions and meetups with voters; and
- A third-place election reporting award for editor Kelly Moyer’s article, “Voters to decide fate of Camas school levies,” regarding the February 2021 Camas School District levies.
