Papermakers remain unbeaten

The Camas High School (CHS) football team will look for its fifth consecutive win when it hosts Heritage High School on Friday, Oct. 4.

The Timberwolves (2-2) lost to Mountain View 24-7 on Friday, Sept.27.

The Papermakers traveled to Bellevue High School on Sept. 27 to play one of the elite programs in the state. The Wolverines beat CHS at Doc Harris Stadium last season, but it didn’t take long for the Papermakers to cash in for some payback as Tyler Forner returned the opening kickoff for an 85-yard touchdown.

Forner gave CHS a 14-0 lead a 3-yard touchdown later in the first quarter. That’s when the CHS defense shut things down while junior running back Jacques Badolato-Birdsell racked up 140 yards rushing, including a 6-yard touchdown.

Papermakers coach Jon Eagle is pleased with the play of his running backs and offensive line.

“Our run game has been very good,” he said. “Jacques is explosive, strong, has great vision and works hard at being good, but none of this happens without an exceptional offensive line. It’s not coach-talk. I watch film. These guys are very big, strong, skillful and smart. Together they are formidable. It’s why football is a great team game.”

Washougal football to host Ridgefield Oct. 4

The Washougal High School (WHS) football team will look to get back on a winning track when it hosts hosts Ridgefield High School at Fishback Stadium on Friday, Oct. 4.

The Panthers are 1-0 in 2A Greater St. Helens League play with an overall record of 2-2. The Spudders are 1-1 in league and also have an overall record of 2-2.

This season has been a bit of a rollercoaster for WHS, which fell to host W.F. West 23-7 on Friday, Sept. 27. The Panthers kept it close in the first half when Brevan Bea punched in a 1-yard touchdown after Julien Jones caught a 34-yard pass from Tristan Farrell on a risky fourth-down play. Unfortunately for the Panthers, that was the end of their scoring.

Camas cross country teams take third place

The CHS cross county team finished third out of 26 teams in the Nike Portland Invitational, held at Blue Lake Park on Saturday, Sept. 28.

Luc Utheza who finished sixth with a time of 15:42;25, Evan Jenkins was 40th with a time of 16:06;40 and Austin Weese finished in 52nd position for the Papermakers.

The CHS girls finished in ninth place out of 23 teams. Halle Jenkins was the top Papermakers runner, finishing 48th.

Washougal boys golf loses to Hawks

The WHS boys golf team dropped a close one on its home course to Hockinson High School on Monday, Sept. 30. The Hawks edged out the Panthers by only one stroke, earning a 179-180 victory at Orchard Hills Country Club.

WHS’ Chase Baldwin had a 42, while Oliver Evers shot a 43 and Gavin Tyacke finished with a 44. The Panthers have upcoming matches against Heritage, Ridgefield and Woodland high schools before the 2A Greater St. Helens League championships on Tuesday, Oct. 15.

Camas volleyball moves to 5-1

The CHS volleyball improved to 5-1 a 3-0 win against Mountain View High School on Thursday, Sept. 26.

Emma Villaluz led the way for the Papermakers with eight kills, 11 digs and three aces.

Camas begins 4A Greater St. Helens League play against rival Union on Thursday, Oct. 3, at CHS.
