Camas girls golf team wins bi-district tournament
Conditions at Golf Mountain Golf Course in Bremerton were windy and wet, but the Camas girls golf team came out on top with a nine-stroke win at a 4A bi-district tournament on May 14.
The rough conditions raised scores a bit as the Papermakers finished with a team score of 673. Nine-time defending 4A state champion Bellarmine Prep lost its top player to injury and did not finish in the top three. Camas has finished second to the Lions at the 4A state tournament in the past three seasons.
Papermakers senior Ashley Clark had the shot of the year on hole No. 5, holing out her long second shot on a par-5 for a double eagle, or albatross.
“It was a huge shot in the arm for us as we were struggling to get momentum,” Camas coach Bob Foster said.
The tournament had 120 girls from 19 teams competing for seven team entries to state and 16 individual spots. Camas put its depth on display, with Emma Cox and Clark tying 13th with two-day totals of 159.
