Camas equestrian team riding to state

The Camas equestrian team will send several riders to the Washington High School Equestrian Teams’ state meet May 16-19 in Moses Lake, Washington.

Makenna Pasa qualified for state in reining. The drill team consisting of Pasa, Mikayla Alley, Ashlyn Anderson, Natalie Renee, Laura Johnson, Emily Sheppard, Maddy Sheppard and Hailey Whidden also qualified for the state equestrian meet.

Most of the girls on the Camas drill team also qualified for state in other events, including Camas freshman Anaya Stand, who qualified for the jumping event.

Camas golfers swing into postseason

After three consecutive years of finishing second in the state of Washington’s 4A girls golf tournament, the Papermakers say they are determined to claim a championship this season. The Camas girls golf team went undefeated into its final league match of the year against Union on April 30, and wrapped another victory at Camas Meadows, which is home course to both teams.

On April 25, Camas was invited to compete against the 16 best teams in Oregon at the 6A Preview at Quail Valley Golf Course in Banks, Oregon. The Papermakers finished fourth, but Camas head girls golf coach Bob Foster said some of his girls had their worst day of the season at the Oregon tournament. Even so, Camas senior Emma Cox tied for first place with a 74 in windy conditions.

The Papermakers have already started their postseason run with the 4A district tournament this week at Tri-Mountain Golf Course in Ridgefield. Qualifiers will go to bi-districts next week at Golf Mountain Golf Course in Bremerton. The state tournament will be held May 21-22, at Hangman Valley Golf Course in Spokane.

Washougal baseball misses postseason

It came down to the last game of the season, but the Washougal baseball team lost to Ridgefield 4-0 on May 2, ending the Panthers’ hopes of earning a postseason berth for the first time in 18 years.

Washougal finished the season with an overall record of 8-10.

Washougal tennis finishes season in second place

The Washougal girls tennis team played for the 2A Greater St. Helens League title against Columbia River on May 3. The match ended with a 3-3 tie, but the Chieftains won the match on sets 7-6 to claim the title.

The Panthers’ doubles team of Beyonce Bea and Paige Wilson remain undefeated on the season with a 6-2, 6-3 victory.

The sub-district 2A league tournament will be held Friday and Saturday, May 10-11, at R.A. Long High School in Longview, Washington.
