The Clark County Medical Examiner’s Office today released the cause of death for homicide victim Michael “Chad” Holmes, of Camas.
According to the medical examiner’s office, the 52-year-old Holmes died from a gunshot wound to the head.
Holmes had been missing since early February. Kayakers with the Oregon Kayak and Canoe Club discovered Holmes’ body floating in a Washougal River eddy near Hathaway Park on April 6, and alerted police.
In March, police working with the Clark County Major Crimes Team had found the vehicle Holmes was last seen getting into, a tan GMC Yukon, in the Lewis River in north Clark County.
Police arrested another Camas man, Randy John Schmidt, 47, and have charged him with second-degree murder in connection with Holmes’ death.
At an April 10 arraignment, a Clark County Superior Court judge set Schmidt’s bail at $750,000.
