People interested in volunteering at a temporary severe weather shelter in Washougal are invited to attend a meeting at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 29, in the Washougal Community Center, 1681 “C” St., Washougal.
That includes people who have previously volunteered at the Washougal severe weather shelter at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, in Washougal, and people interested in finding out more information about the effort to help people stay warm when the temperatures drop below 30 or there is snow or ice in the forecast.
St. Matthew Lead Pastor Robert Barber plans to offer volunteer training in December in Washougal.
He said this year’s severe weather shelter will be at the Washougal Community Center, and the goal will be to decide 12 to 24 hours in advance of opening the temporary shelter.
“It will be communicated on the city and chamber websites, also on the Council for the Homeless website,” Barber said. “The Camas and Washougal police will be notified, and we will have signs placed out (by the community center).”
