A Vancouver woman has died, apparently from injuries she sustained during a 100 foot fall from Panther Creek Falls.

A Forest Service law enforcement officer was not able to resuscitate the hiker, Leslie N. Mar, 23.

Witnesses told the emergency responders Mar and her hiking partner had been hiking on or near a ledge at Panther Creek Falls, near Carson, Friday, July 13. The witnesses also said Mar’s hiking partner turned after nearing their destination, and he watched as she slipped and fell.

The Skamania County Sheriff’s Office was notified about the fall victim at approximately 7:10 p.m., Friday. The Forest Service law enforcement officer had received the initial information, and he responded to the area with Skamania County Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Skamania County deputies and Skamania County Fire District 2 personnel.

Due to the rugged location and darkness Friday night, Mar’s body was recovered Saturday morning by members of the Clark County Search and Rescue and Skamania County EMS Ropes team.

The Clark County Medical Examiner’s Office in Vancouver will conduct an autopsy.
