Camas cleanup, planting day set April 22
Volunteers are needed to help remove weeds and plant flowers from 1 to 4 p.m., Sunday, April 22, in downtown Camas.
The Downtown Camas Association (DCA) invites community members to share in the annual grassroots effort.
Journey Community Church invites the volunteers to enjoy hamburgers and hot dogs at 12:30 p.m., at 304 N.E. Fourth Ave.
The cleanup and planting effort is held in honor of Earth Day, which was started by Camas native Denis Hayes. In addition to weeding and planting flowers, volunteers will clean up sidewalks and landscape beds and spread bark dust.
Volunteers will meet in front of Journey, to sign in. All ages are welcome to volunteer.
Bring your own shovels, spades, buckets, wheelbarrows and garden gloves. Wheelbarrows are especially needed. Garbage bags and rubber gloves will be provided for litter pick up.
“Everyone comes together, and in just a few short hours our town is completely transformed,” said DCA Executive Director Carrie Schulstad.
The downtown improvements will be done prior to the annual Camas Plant and Garden Fair on Saturday, May 12.
