The Washougal-based East County Family Resource Center is in immediate need of food donations.
The end of November, which comes right before the center gets a large donation from the local “Stuff the Bus” campaign, can be a particularly tough time of year for meeting local families’ food needs, said Renee Law, 55, coordinator of the Children’s Home Society of Washington’s East County Family Resource Center.
Law said Wednesday that the center needs donations of beans, rice, peanut butter, canned meats, macaroni and cheese and other protein-rich foods to help fill its backpack program, which provides weekly backpacks filled with well-rounded foods to about 60 Washougal students in need.
Law said that the center is focused on helping local families meet their basic needs, and often donates food, clothes, hygiene products and household items to Washougal-area residents and families who have fallen on hard times.
Donations can be dropped off from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, at the center, located at 1702 “C.” St., Washougal.
