Voters have until 8 p.m. tomorrow night to cast their votes in the Aug. 1, 2017 Primary and Special Election.
Clark County Elections workers have received 34,621 ballots as of this afternoon, which means fewer than 15 percent of the county’s 238,870 eligible voters have turned in ballots for the primary election.
Many Clark County voters tend to wait until the actual election day to cast their votes. In last year’s August primary and special election, 27 percent of eligible voters cast ballots and 43 percent voted on the actual election day.
The election will determine candidates for two critical government positions in Camas-Washougal — including the Camas City Council’s Ward 1, Position 2 seat and the Washougal City Council’s Position 6 seat.
Incumbent Camas City Councilwoman Melissa Smith is competing against two challengers — Emilia Brasier and Amanda Stamness — for the council seat Smith has held since 2004. In Washougal, three newcomers — Nettie Morris, Adam Philbin and Julie Russell — are vying for City Councilman Dave Shoemaker’s seat. Shoemaker decided this spring to not run for re-election, after serving two terms on the Washougal City Council.
