SKAMANIA COUNTY — Police say a teen girl struck and killed by a freight train a few miles east of North Bonneville in Skamania County on Sunday may have been distracted by her electronic device and headphones.
Skamania County deputies and Skamania County EMS responded to a report of a pedestrian struck by a Burlington Northern Santa Fe freight train around noon Sunday, near milepost 40 on state Route 14, between the towns of North Bonneville and Stevenson.
Deputies on the scene found the body of a 16-year-old female lying on the north side of the railroad tracks.
Police say the girl, a Skamania County resident whose name has not yet been released to the public, was walking westbound along the north side of the tracks when she was struck by an eastbound train.
In a press release sent to media this morning, Skamania County deputies said “it appears (the teen) may have been distracted by the use of an electronic device and headphones.”
