Flag retirement ceremony is set for June 11

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4278 and local Scouts will host an afternoon of flag-folding lessons and etiquette, followed by a flag retirement ceremony, Sunday, June 11.
The flag-folding lessons and etiquette start at noon and run until 2 p.m., in Marina Park, near the Port of Camas-Washougal marina, 24 S. “A” St., Washougal. The flag retirement ceremony will begin at 2 p.m., at the same location.
The events are free and open to the public.
Only unserviceable American flags that are cotton or wool will be burned.
“Worn, torn, faded — those flags should not be flown or displayed, unless there is a significant (or) historical reason the flag should be saved (or) displayed,” said VFW Post Adjutant Bob Hitchcock.
Tattered, old flags can be brought to the ceremony or taken to a dropbox outside Lutz Hardware, 505 N.E. Fourth Ave., Camas.
