‘Go Green’ at First Friday

Downtown Camas will celebrate taking care of the environment and the love of green for March’s Camas First Friday tomorrow.

“Go Green!” is the theme, and it will feature Lucky Leprechauns, Eartha the Clown, a “green zone” with family friendly activities, and the wearing of green. The event runs from 5 to 8 p.m.

Each participating merchant will have a “lucky leprechaun” in his or her business, and for every leprechaun found, participants receive a ticket to be entered to win “green” prizes and more from the merchants. Lucky leprechaun “passports” can be found in participating stores and at the Downtown Camas Association tables at Journey church at 304 N.E. Fourth Ave.

Eartha the Ecological Clown will be in downtown from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. with her (endangered) Moluccan cockatoo “Major.”

Eartha teaches earth awareness, appreciation for all life, and the importance of saving what we have for future generations. Young and old can take photos with Eartha and “Major”.

The “Green Zone” at Journey Church will include fun, educational kid-friendly activities and giveaways provided by non-profits, including Master Gardeners, Waste Connections, Camas Farmer’s Market, World Vision, EOCF (Educational Opportunities for Children & Families), and Clark County Public Health.

The Camas Certified Green Schools represented will be Grass Valley Elementary, Camas High School and others.

Other activities will include a 5 p.m. ribbon cutting at holistic wellness center Peace Yourself Together, 506 N.E. Everett St. There will also be featured art shows and receptions at Second Story Gallery, Camas Gallery and Attic Gallery, “Green” Kids” crafts at the DCA tables and painting with The Paint Roller Mobile Paint Party.

Merchants will have “green lists” in their windows showing all the ways our downtown businesses care for the environment. Customers wearing green get an extra prize ticket. Those wearing a green hat will get three.

“Our merchants and our community do a lot to be environmentally conscious, and this event is a great showcase of that,” said Carrie Schulstad, DCA executive director.
