C-W schools close on Friday, Feb. 3

Freezing rain pounded the Portland-Vancouver area overnight, leaving icy and dangerous conditions on Friday morning.

The Camas and Washougal school districts announced early this morning that all schools would be closed Feb. 3 due to the inclement weather. Any district activities and evening programs would also be rescheduled.

Local public transit services are also being impacted. C-Tran’s Route 92, which serves Camas and Washougal, will not travel to Addy Loop in Washougal. In addition, the Camas Connector is not serving Prune Hill in Camas.

A winter weather advisory issued by the National Weather Service’s Portland office on Thursday will continue through 4 a.m. Saturday.

“Ice on the roads [is] resulting in dangerous driving conditions,” an advisory updated Friday morning stated. “Numerous traffic accidents have been reported early this morning due to ice on the highways. Morning and evening commutes will be impacted by the ice.”

Ice accumulations in most areas are expected to be less than one-tenth of an inch. However, up to one-quarter of an inch of ice, or more, may occur east of Interstate 205, and closer to the Columbia River Gorge.

Temperatures are expected to warm a bit today, with a high of 38 degrees forecasted.
