Sweet 16 Papermakers participate in National College Signing Day

Another round of CHS athletes are expected to sign in the spring

Sixteen Camas Papermakers signed their college letters of intent Wednesday, at Lacamas Lake Lodge.

National College Signing Day brought 16 Camas Papermakers to the three tables assembled at Lacamas Lake Lodge Wednesday.

Ashley Carter, Julia Coombs, Sarah Davidson, Ellie Echeverio, Sabine Postma and Alyssa Tomasini helped Camas win the 4A state girls soccer championship.

David Aarhus, Caleb Eldred, Dylan Ingram and Michael Matthews anchored the Camas football team’s rise to the state championship.

Tiana Bevens, Allie Hancock and Alexis Royal look forward to one more season together on the softball diamond for the Papermakers.

Hannah Gianan aims for one more  state tennis championship this spring. Max Bilsborough will try to keep the tradition of going to state alive for the boys soccer team. Adam Soubh wants to go out with a bang for the Camas Lacrosse Club.

The following information on each athlete was provided by the CHS Athletic Department:

DAVID AARHUS will be signing to play football for the Panthers of Chapman University in Orange California. David is a three year letterman in both football and track and field. David has received the scholar athlete award in 2014, 2015 and 2016. David was chosen as GSHL 2nd team linebacker in 2015, and fought through injuries his senior season serving as team captain. He has played a vital part in Papermaker football winning league titles during all three of his varsity years which was highlighted by a state championship this past year. David is undecided on his focus of study at Chapman.

TIANA BEVENS will be traveling east to Ann Arbor Michigan to play fast pitch for the Cardinals of Concordia University Ann Arbor. Tianna will earn her fourth fast pitch letter this spring from Camas High School. Tiana helped her team win a league and district title in 2015 and capped the year off with a 4th place state finish at the state tournament. Tiana earned the scholar athlete award in 2015 and followed that with a GSHL 1st team all-league 3rd baseman recognition in 2016. Tiana will be studying elementary education in Michigan.

MAX BILSBOROUGH will be headed even farther east as his plans are to attend Assumption College in Worcester Massachusetts to play soccer for the Greyhounds. Max will be a four year letterman playing on teams that have included three league championships, two district championships and three trips to the state tournament. Max has been recognized as GSHL 1st team all-league twice along with recognition on the all-region team in 2016 and all-state honorable mention in 2016 as well. Max is a National AP scholar award winner and will focus his studies on Sports Management and Pre-Law.

ASHLEY CARTER will be part of The Fighting Saints in Helena Montana at Carroll College. Ashley is a two letterman for girls’ soccer and lettered two years in gymnastics as well. She has also been awarded the Camas High School Pride Inside award her junior year, the Camas Rotary award her sophomore year and the GSHL scholar athlete award all four years. Ashley just finished playing for the most dominant team in Camas High School history that won a state championship and finished ranked first in the nation. She earned 2nd team GSHL all-league honors this past season along with being voted most-improved. Ashley is undecided at this time on what she will study at Carroll.

JULIA COOMBS is off to Denver Colorado to join the Rangers of Regis University women’s soccer team next fall. Julia has lettered at Camas High School three years in soccer, and has been part of some great Papermaker teams which earned a state quarter-final birth in 2013, a state 3rd place finish in 2015 and a state championship in 2016 in which she held a goals against average of 0.129. Julia is a GSHL academic scholar athlete award winner in 2013, 2015 and 2016. While in Denver, Julia will study health and exercise science.

SARAH DAVIDSON will make the drive to Pullman to continue her soccer career at Washington State University. Sarah has lettered in soccer two years helping her team earn league and district championships both years along with state finishes of 3rd place in 2015 and 1st place in 2016. She is a GSHL scholar athlete award winner in 2013, 2015 and 2016. Sarah has been recognized as GSHL 2nd team all-league forward her junior and followed that up with a senior campaign that earned GSHL 1st team all-league defender and 1st team all-state defender. Sarah will study sports marketing while playing for the Cougars.

ELLIE ECHEVERIO will be traveling to Salt Lake City Utah to continue her soccer career playing for the Griffins of Westminster College. Ellie is a three year letterman in soccer and one year in track and field at Camas High School. She is a three year GSHL scholar athlete award winner, and received GSHL all-league 2nd team honors her senior year. Ellie has helped the Papermaker girls soccer team earn league championships during her three years on varsity as well two district championships, a 3rd place state finish her junior year and a state championship her senior year. Ellie is exploring the idea of studying education while in Salt Lake City.

CALEB ELDRED is signing with Idaho State University in Pocatello Idaho to play football for the Bengals. Caleb is a three year letterman in football and has also earned letters in track and field and wrestling. He started every game on the offensive line for the Papermakers his senior season which ended with the school’s first football state championship. Caleb also helped his team win the wrestling district championship his junior year as he qualified for the regional tournament. Caleb will major in History at Idaho State

HANNAH GIANAN will be taking her talent to compete at Seattle University as part of the women’s tennis team for the Redhawks. Hannah has been part of the WIAA state champion doubles team her freshman and sophomore year, and followed that up with a 2nd place state individual finish her junior year. Hannah has been recognized as the GSHL player of the year all three years along with the Columbian All Region player of the year. She has racked up other awards that include, Camas High School team most valuable player, leadership award, captain recognition, Camas High School athlete of the month and GSHL scholar athlete recognition. Hannah will study Biology (Pre-med) in Seattle.

ALLIE HANCOCK will be playing for the Raiders of Southern Oregon University in Ashland Oregon next year. Allie will be a four year letterman for the Papermakers and has helped her team earn league and district titles in 2014 and 2015 along with a 4th place state finish in 2015. Allie has been recognized on the GSHL 1st team all-league in 2015 and 2016, and the all-region team in 2016. She has earned the Camas High School athlete of the month award and has been a scholar athlete in 2014, 2015 and 2016. Allie will study physical therapy while in Ashland.

DYLAN INGRAM will take his skills to Eastern Washington University to play football for the Eagles. Dylan is a three year football letterman along with lettering four years in wrestling. Dylan has helped the Papermaker football team win league championships all three years he has played varsity along with state tournament appearances all three years which was capped by a state championship this past fall. During his senior season, Dylan was selected as GSHL 1st team all-league tight end and defensive end. Dylan was also recognized as 1st team all-region defensive end. Dylan also served a major role in helping the Papermaker wrestling team win the district title his junior year and finished with an individual 3rd place state finish. Dylan will study Business in Cheney.

ALEXIS ROYAL will be playing fast pitch next year for Highline Community College in Des Moines Washington. Alexis is a letterman in fast pitch and slow pitch softball here at Camas High School. Alexis has served as an anchor for Papermaker teams that have won several league and district championships. Alexis will focus her studies in nursing while playing for the Thunderbirds.

SABINE POSTMA will attend Humboldt State University in northern California to play soccer for the lumberjacks next fall. Sabine has lettered in soccer at Camas High School four years. Sabine has been a vital part to the success of Papermaker soccer over the past four years. Her teams have earned four league championships, three district championships, a 3rd place state finish along with a state championship this past fall. Sabine has been recognized on the GSHL all-league 1st team in 2015 and 2016, WIAA athlete of the week in 2016, Camas High School athlete of the month, GSHL all-league academic awards, voted team MVP in 2015 and 2016 and served as co-captain on the #1 ranked team in the nation this past fall. Sabine will study Zoology at Humboldt State.

MICHAEL MATTHEWS will play football for the University of Montana Grizzlies next fall. Michael is a three year letterman in football and has also earned letters for track and field and baseball. Michael has played linebacker for teams that have earned league championships for all three of his varsity years and served as the defensive stopper on the team’s first state championship football team in 2016. Michael is a two time GSHL defensive player of the year, two time all region linebacker, 1st team GSHL all-league running back in 2016 and 1st team all-state linebacker in 2016. Michael’s efforts allowed the Papermakers earn national attention in 2016 earning a top 25 national ranking at the end of the season. While in Missoula Michael will study business.

ALYSSA TOMASINI will take her soccer talents to Monmouth Oregon to play soccer for the Wolves of Western Oregon. Alyssa is a four year letterman for the Papermaker girls soccer team and will also earn her fourth year letter in fast pitch this fall. Alyssa has received GSHL all-league honors three times, been honored on the all-region team and recognized on the all-state team during her senior year. Alyssa was voted as the offensive player of the year her senior year on a team that scored 89 goals during the season. Her combination of Camas High School soccer and fast pitch has accumulated six league titles 5 district titles and state finishes that was capped with a soccer state championship finish her senior year. Alyssa will be studying elementary education at Western Oregon.

ADAM SOUBH will be moving to Texas next fall to play Lacrosse for the Southwestern University Pirates. While playing Lacrosse for the Camas club team, Adam has led his team to the playoffs in 2014 and 2015. During Adam’s junior season he led his team with goals with 28 which earned him South Central Conference 2nd team all-league team recognition. While in Georgetown, Adam will study Biology/Kinesiology.
