Washougal’s Tanner Lees and Camas’ Sam Malychewski brought home championship medals from the Best of the West wrestling tournament Dec. 21 and 22, in Pasco.
Lees defeated Kennewick’s Alex Ramos 3-1 for the 145-pound title. Malychewski pinned Evergreen’s Jedidiah Shaver in the second round of 182-pound finals match.
Three other Camas wrestlers won medals. Jack Latimer secured second place at 120 pounds, Tanner Craig claimed third place at 126 and Gideon Malychewski took third place at 145.
The Papermakers earned second place in the championship bracket of the team tournament.
After a bye in the first round, Camas beat the Newberg B-team 53-12. Wins went to Gideon Malychewski, Isaac Duncan, Sam Malychewski, Tanner Howington, Luke Pipkin, Sam McCormick, Ryan Ball, Latimer, Craig, Michael Strickland and Quentin Adams.
Camas defeated Deer Park 34-23 in the semifinals on wins by Sam Malychewski, Howington, Pipkin, McCormick, Ball, Craig, Adams and Gideon Malychewski.
