Camas Hotel is featured on Travel Channel program

An episode of “Hotel Impossible: Showdown” includes scenes from the Camas Hotel and other businesses in downtown Camas.

The Travel Channel program involved Karen Hall, former co-owner of the Camas Hotel, and three other hotel owners from around the Northwest talking with Mark Zech, co-owner of Mill City Brew Werks, and Gabby Navidi, co-owner of Navidi’s Olive Oils & Vinegars.

The episode, titled “Noisy Trucks, Trains & Complains” originally aired Oct. 17. It was taped in December 2014.

The owners of the four hotels visited each others’ properties and rated the facilities on accommodations, amenities and hospitality, as well as the overall experience. The owner of the winning property, The Chrysalis Inn & Spa, in Bellingham, Washington, won $25,000.

The other hotels were The Collins Inn & Seaside Cottages in Ocean Shores, Washington, and the Commodore Hotel, in Astoria, Oregon.

Hall said the show was quite an experience.

“I enjoyed learning what the other hoteliers were doing and spending time with them,” she said. “The main reason I did it was to introduce people to Camas, and promote the Camas Hotel.

“I hope that it brings more visitors to Camas, even though it aired after Tom and I retired,” Hall added. “Perhaps the show will help the new owners, Terri and Dave Sauer, as they begin thinking of ways to make the hotel even better.”

The Sauers purchased the Camas Hotel from the Halls for $2.31 million in August 2016.

The property includes 24 hotel rooms, a manager’s apartment and two retail spaces leased by Allure Boutique and Miss Nola’s Cafe.

The Halls, formerly of Ojai, California, purchased the Camas Hotel and building for $700,000 in September 2008. After that, they invested approximately $800,000 into the property and made many improvements.
