The Washougal School Board unanimously selected Cory Chase as its newest member at the Tuesday board meeting.

Chase is a lieutenant with the Port of Portland Police Department, and has experience in union contract negotiations, as well as public finance.

He is a volunteer youth basketball, flag football and baseball coach, and he also volunteers at Jemtegaard Middle School and Gause Elementary, where his children attend.

“He is highly qualified for the position as board member and brings a lot to the table,” said Ron Dinius, board president. “Professionally, he has experience with finance and labor negotiations, as well as leadership within a large organization. He is also a longtime volunteer with our district, is interested in youth accountability and is a strong communicator.”

Chase succeeds Karen Rubino for position 4. She resigned in September after accepting a job in Seattle.

Chase’s term will expire Dec. 31, 2019.

“I’m excited to be part of a strong leadership team,” Chase said. “Our youth are the foundation on which our community is built. I’m looking forward to serving our community and helping to shape the future of our young people.”
