It was a special day for seven Camas High School senior girls swimmers.
Siobhan Choong, Hannah Clayton, Sarah Doyle, Shelby Gano, Emily Hows, Rachael Smith and MacKenzie Spady helped the Papermakers rise above rivals Union and Mountain View Sept. 28, at LaCamas Swim & Sport.
“This is the first duel meet we have won against Union in a while. All of the girls did amazing,” Clayton said. “It was just a good vibe. Our last meet for the seniors here. It was a good way to close it out.”
Washougal swimmers Ana Janiszewski and Kaylyn Schmid helped the Panthers beat Evergreen 32-26. This was the school’s first duel meet victory. Schmid earned second place in the 100-meter butterfly (1:19.14) and ninth place in the 50 freestyle (31.25). Janiszewski took third place in the 200 individual medley (2:46.7) and fourth place in the 100 backstroke (1:15.18).
Camas swept all four Evergreen schools. The Papermakers defeated Union 148-128, Mountain View 155-116, Heritage 173-63 and Evergreen 192-15.
“I thought Union and Mountain View had too much depth for us, but our girls stepped up and swam really well,” said head coach Mike Bemis. “Our depth paid off for us again.”
