Golf tournament fundraiser will raise money for homeless families

Proceeds will support the more than 60 homeless families in Clark County

The second annual Drive Out Homelessness golf tournament and fundraiser will be held at the Orchard Hills Golf and Country Club on Saturday, Aug. 6.

Funds raised through registration fees will benefit the Council for the Homeless, a non-profit organization in Clark County dedicated to ending homelessness in local communities.

The cost is $125 per person, which includes 18 holes of golf, as well as dinner at the awards ceremony, commemorative gifts and a chance to win prizes. Participants can sign up as individuals or in teams of four.

The tournament will feature two different rounds of golf. The first will be a four-player scramble beginning at 11 a.m., in which participants compete in teams of four. The second round will begin at 1 p.m. and will be a “shotgun start,” where all of the groups start at different tee boxes and make their way through all 18 holes.

This year’s fundraiser is a departure from last year’s cause, which raised money to fight malaria on a global scale. The golf tournament will help homeless families in the community. Coordinator Carol Fleming said organizers wanted to choose a cause that was more impactful to the local community.

“I suspect that in later years we will target what we need most in Clark County,” she said.

According to the Council for the Homeless, there are 68 homeless families with children in Clark County.

The event is sponsored by The Vancouver District of the United Methodist Church.
