Students named to dean’s list

Several local students have been named to the spring quarter dean’s list at Eastern Washington University.

To be named to the list, students must take 12 graded credits and earn a GPA of at least 3.5.

Students are Gabrielle Austin, Joshua Bates, Christopher Bettis, Christopher Bryson, Kyle Darland, Zachary Eagle, Jessica Erdesz, Whittney Ford, Tiana Gabriel, Rachel Gibson, Conner Irvin, Fana Kebede, Allyson Lesesne, Jennifer Lewis, Michael Long, David Nguyen, Mikaela Norris, McKenna Paulsen, Hali Ramirez, Hailee Roth, Payton Rusu, Marissa Saidy, Miranda Winterton and Reed Wortman of Camas; and Mustapha Bah, Brianna Chandler, Caylem Nunes and Trent Stauffer of Washougal.

Locals achieve high honors at Utica

Charlene M. Blank has achieved high honors at Utica College in Utica, New York.

Students must be enrolled full time and obtain a GPA of 4.0 to achieve high honors.

Harris named to honor’s list

Lauren Harris of Camas has been named to the honor’s list for the spring 2016 semester at Fairleigh Dickinson University’s Florham Campus in Madison, New Jersey.

To qualify for the list, a student must earn at least a 3.5 or better GPA out of 4.0 and be enrolled in a minimum of 12 letter-graded hours.

Fairleigh Dickinson University is a private, nonsectarian university with four campuses in New Jersey, Canada, and the United Kingdom.

Local student receives Lynden Memorial Scholarship

A Washougal student has been awarded a Lynden Memorial Scholarship.

Joshua Bates is among the recipients of a $2,500 scholarship to go toward the 2016-2017 academic year.

All recipients are children of Lynden employees.

Bates will attend Eastern Washington University in Cheney, as a junior this fall. His field of study is business administration.

Bates is the cultural co-chairman of Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society, an active participant in intramural sports, and has made the dean’s list on multiple occasions in his time at Eastern Washington University.

“Lynden offers these scholarships to children of our employees. This year’s scholarship winners are very accomplished students and community leaders,” said Gail Knapp, director and coordinator for Lynden. “On behalf of all our employees, we congratulate Joshua and wish him the best of luck with his future studies.”

The number of scholarships awarded, as required by law, is based on a percentage of the applications received. At least 43 were submitted. Review and final selection of recipients is handled by Scholarship Management Services of St. Peter, Minnesota.

The Lynden family of companies’ combined capabilities include air, ground and ocean transportation, as well as logistics services.

Grass Valley students are regional poster contest winners

The Camas School District recently announced the winners of its school bus safety poster contest.

According to Transportation Director Laura Nowland the winners were Shalaka Deshpande, a third-grader at Grass Valley Elementary, and Shaunka Deshpande, a kindergartner at Grass Valley Elementary.

As the regional division winners, Shalaka and Shaunka were awarded $50 each. Their posters will be submitted to compete at the state level.

The 2016 National School Bus Safety Week Poster Contest theme is “#Stop on Red!”

National School Bus Safety Week will be held Oct. 17 through 21.
