The Camas-Washougal Fire Marshal is investigating a fire that destroyed a boat in the Port of Camas-Washougal marina Tuesday evening.

Camas-Washougal Fire crews, along with East County Fire and Rescue firefighters and a Vancouver Fire Department boat, responded to the fire around 4 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 26.

CWFD Battalion Chief Allen Wolk said the boat is a total loss.

“We had to have the boat towed to the ramp and placed on a trailer and then taken to the parking lot to complete extinguishment,” he said.

No other boats, nor the nearby Puffin Cafe, were damaged. The cafe, which was closed Tuesday because of inclement weather, reopened today.

Port of C-W Executive Director David Ripp said there were no injuries as a result of the boat fire.

The boat was docked at the marina, off the “H” dock, near the Port of C-W office in Washougal.

Port of C-W Facilities Manager Jeramy Wilcox said he was still assessing damage to the dock.

Wilcox and other Port employees are in clean-up mode, working with the Washington State Department of Ecology, and have set up an absorbent boom in the Columbia River to catch any contaminants from the boat fire.

Wilcox said some oil or fuel, from the burnt boat, has already been cleaned from the boat launch ramp.
